Must be a Guy Thing

When Etain got the invite to go to the summit meeting, Chance only gave the invite a passing thought. Meaning, he thought of the number of males of all ranges of jewel strength and decided the best course of action would be to stay home. Then Etain had decided to throw a curve ball and take her newest interest(?) as an escort to the damn thing. That got everyone buzzing…except maybe him. Probably only because Chance wasn’t directly sure what threat the Herondale male posed aside from being a dark jeweled warlord prince from a rival family. Which he could not even count since he had a half sister who was also a Herondale and his Sleeping Beauty was also a Herondale. What was one more? So Chance shut all the fight down by agreeing to go to escort... the escort.

Now he was here. Wearing clothes. Wearing a three piece suit all the women in his house has gone shopping for. He was also holding a very breakable looking piece of glass, holding weak wine. Chance questioned everything. This was why he was the Master of the Guard and not the First Escort. Taking a sip in a sophisticated manner, Chance walked around the room with one hand in the pocket of his pants. Being a Prince allowed him to be within this room without adding to the undercurrent of tension added by having so many Warlord Princes in one room. Though being half De Al Mon added problems of its own since he wasn’t hiding his ears.

Pausing, he stood with his back to the wall as he realized at some point how rude it would look for him to not be speaking to anyone. But this was politics and Chance wanted to growl at the thought of playing politics, however…he looked out the corner of his eye. Everyone had been more or less introduced upon entering. There was something he could do. Turning, he started a path towards an older Warlord Prince, who also happened to be a Herondale. “Greetings Prince Herondale, might I have a word with you? A few questions if you will?” It couldn't hurt to ask after the Herondale who was sniffing around his Queen and cousin.

So far, things seemed to be going alright. It was nice to see some of his family members and speak with their new heir. He wasn't sure what to expect from her, nor was he sure now how well she would fit in with the rest of the Herondales, but only time would tell.

Rainor was trying not to suffocate Persi with his presence. She needed to mingle and form connections of her own accord, rather than simply ones that piggybacked off his own connections. Those were good as well, useful, but he thought she needed separate ones, too. This didn't meant he left her completely unattended; she was within earshot as he stood, and it was still obvious that he was her escort.

He looked over as a Troy headed his way. He straightened as the male stopped in front of him, though not in a tense way; simply correcting slightly bad posture, and Rainor sent a quick message to Persi that she should interrupt if she needed something. Then he focused most of his attention on Chance.

"Prince Troy," he returned the greeting. He was mostly relaxed, although his voice held a stiff formal tone. "Yes, that would be fine. What can I do for you?" He supposed there were all sorts of questions that the Troy could have for him, so he didn't try to anticipate any of them.

One could not say that Chance Troy did not know how to play the game. That he could not summon up enough charm and grace and every amount of book beaten rule about protocol to not bring embarrassment to himself or his family. It helped that he had the certain personality to be able to speak to just about anyone regardless of what caste they were or what jewel they wore. Family politics... Well, that was just another matter wasn't it? But it wasn't and it was the reason why he approached this Herondale. He was a Prince among a room full of Warlord Princes and really the only thing that bothered him was the fact that he couldn't get anything stronger than a glass of wine. So he figured he might as well do something that wouldn't make his cousin and Queen disappointed in him. As well as make his oldest cousin want to string him up and snarl...something.

So he would try not to step on any toes. Moving his head, he gave something like a nod before saying, "Given our family history, it is hard to say when or if ever, our families will be more than cordial towards each other. However, I find it very interesting how Prince Tobias Herondale does not share this vision." Chance began, deciding to play it safe in case this Herondale did not know what his family member was up to. At the same time, he had to be a little more cautious to keep from even hinting that there was a Herondale living in his house. They were coming up to eight months and he knew someone had to be looking for her. The thing was no one just thought to look at him.

"So much so that he has convinced my Queen to trust him into letting him escort her to this summit meeting... Instead of one of her first circle males." Chance was proud of the fact that he did not growl this last part. Proud that his voice was even with only a slight hint of curiosity. "It bothers me because I don't know him and I feel the need to have a second opinion. So my question is what is Prince Tobias Herondale looking for? Perhaps not in my Queen but in something that would lead him to be at a party where he would meet a Troy Queen. If you don't know, can I not ask you to define his character for me?"

Rainor frowned when Prince Troy brought up Tobias. His eyes momentarily scanned the room, searching for his nephew, though he did not immediately spot him. As far as Rainor knew, he was as pro-Herondale as any other member of their family, but something had given Chance reason to think otherwise.

That a Queen would be escorted by someone who was not only not part of her court or family, but from a rival family was a bit bizarre to Rainor. It seemed like an unnecessary risk, one which he was surprised Chance's Queen's court stood for. There were only three Troy Queens that Rainor knew of, and one of them didn't carry the Troy name, so he assumed it was Etain that Chance was speaking of.

"I do not know what my nephew would want with your Queen," Rainor said, wondering if his mother knew about this. Rainor thought that Tobias was spending the majority of his time searching for his sister, but apparently he had other concerns as well.

"I can say that my nephew is an honorable male with strong character," Rainor said. Even if that was not the case, he certainly wasn't going to say bad things about Tobias to a Troy. That would be a very bad look for the family.

Chance wasn't expecting to hear any sort of dirty laundry, but if he did hear anything that would make the Herondale male sound as if he were the perfect specimen of a Warlord Prince, he would call bullshit. Chance believed everyone made mistakes for good or ill. Instead, what he wanted to do was to read between the lines a bit to pick up something that he likely was to have missed in being so little in the company of the Herondale male. He didn't want to discredit the Herondale, only wanted some insight to his character. What would drive this one to come sniffing around his Queen as if he were a lost puppy who was looking for a new home?

"No, I would guess not." Chance agree willingly, knowing it would highly likely that the rest of the Herondale's would have no idea what this Herondale was up to. Part of Chance wondered if he needed to mention his own personal house guest. Only a small part, however. Sibylla had mentioned Tobias before he had left, but he had asked her if this was such a wise idea since her first mention of needing to hide from her own family. Or he would have quietly passed word, but now things were twisted and Chance needed to unravel everything before he ended up with his own hands tied behind his back.

"Of him having a strong character, I would say this is putting it mildly," With any other person, Chance would have let the sarcasm show, but considering that he was speaking to a dark-Jeweled Warlord Prince, he kept his tone light. "While I have not seen any fights or arguments regarding him, there has been unease considering what exactly he wants. Most wonder if it is a ring seeing how that is one position not yet filled, but being a part of her triangle, I do not see these hints. Even if I ask...would you tell me if he is looking for something or someone?"

It seemed that Tobias had kept his intentions secret from Etain's court as well. Rainor wondered if even the Queen herself knew what Tobias wanted, if he wanted anything at all. Surely he did have a reason for apparently spending enough time with the woman to be an escort to this event. He must have wanted something. Maybe Rainor's mother had wanted Tobias to spend time there for one reason or another.

If Chance wanted to know anything scandalous about Tobias, however, Rainor was not the person to ask. He kept up with his family's dealings as much as he could, but raising his children and his duties to his own Queen took prescedence. Maybe someone else in the family would know more of what Chance was after. His next question, though, Ranior did know the answer to. It just wasn't an answer he was willing to give. He didn't know what his mother was willing to have other families know, if anything, about Sybilla's disappearance.

"I can't say that I would tell you," Rainor said, answering the question as it was asked, rather than the real meaning of it. "What makes you think he's looking for someone or something?" It was a strange question to ask, Rainor thought. More specific than he was expecting. It made Rainor wonder if Chance knew more than he was letting on.
