Takes place in Ludaea before the summit.

Liz had never expected to be offered a position as a Court Healer, but she had, and Dante was offered a position in the court as well, and now here they were. Moving frayed her nerves, especially because they were moving into a Province that still had issues with raiders. She also wondered how the people in the Province were handling having a Rhilander for a Queen, but from what she could tell so far, the court, at least, was solidly behind her.

Before they could really get settled at the court, they needed to get their little house settled. It was right next to the house that the Queen lived in, close enough that Liz would be easily able to make it to the healing room if there was a need, but far enough away that they had a bit of privacy.

"I don't even remember what's in this one," Liz said, pushing a crate across the floor. There was cloth under it to keep it from damaging the floor. "How did we acquire this much stuff?" It amazed her that they had managed it since their house had been fairly small, no larger than the one they were moving into.

"Looks like I forgot to label it. It's heavy, though." She leaned over it to see the other side without walking around it.

The offered that came for Lisette had been unexpected. Dante did not even know how the Queen had come to hear of his wayward healer…damn it she wasn’t his.

Dante had been fighting himself on what to call Lisette in his mind since the alley accident almost weeks ago at this point. He never had this problem before. Now it was like she couldn’t simply be Lisette or a healer or whatever he mentally called her before. He indirectly claimed her and she wasn’t his to claim. A fact that made him growly (her words) and broody (again her words). It wasn’t his fault. It was whatever-his-name-was fault for thinking he could threaten him. And that brought up a whole different set of problems until Dante forcefully pushed all of it to the side to focus on moving. On how he felt he was ready enough to serve in a court once again.

It was better late than never and he didn’t intend to serve in the first circle which he felt would take away from his duties as escorting Lisette and dealing with the family business. He could also handle being in a place that was still attacked by raiders. There was no danger of him back-siding into bad memories.

Lisette’s voice drifted into the kitchen where he was unpacking. Making a soft sound of mild interest, he stopped what he was doing to go see what she was speaking about. He stopped when he came across the sight of her leaning across the crate doing who knew what. He didn’t expect to like this view. Quickly realized how much he shouldn’t like this view and so indirectly snarled aloud at himself for doing do. Not realizing Lisette would possibly take the sound the wrong way. He was only thinking of why she was on the damn crate and how she looked bending over it.

“That’s because I didn’t label the crates that personally were mine.” He told her. Knowing she had gotten carried away with trying to keep everything organized. “As for hoarding, I believe it tends to happen since you had lived in that house for a few years and I only six months.” Walking across the room, he squats down next to the crate on the opposite side of her. Waiting for her to get off so he could open it to see what was inside.

With her words acknowledged by a sound, Liz was content to make sure that there really wasn't a label on the crate that she was missing somewhere. Nope, the only place it could possibly be was on the bottom of the crate, but that would have been a strange place for it. She was pretty sure it was right side up.

Liz let out a squeak of surprise when Dante snarled and she froze except for her eyes, which looked around, trying to figure out what exactly he was snarling at. She wasn't doing anything dumb and she was even in his line of sight! He sounded alright as he spoke, though.

"Oh," she replied and looked down at the crate again. Well, that made sense. Before she could ask him where he wanted it, figuring he probably didn't want her rifling through his stuff, he walked into the room. She looked him over once he came into her line of sight and decided he looked alright too, despite the snarl. He had been growling and snarling a lot more since they were attacked in the alley. She wanted to ask him why and insist on an actual answer, but she wasn't sure if she could or should. Instead she had been staying within his sight as much as she could, which was partially due to his growling, and partially because it made her feel better to be close to him, partially because he made her feel safe, and partially because she just liked being near him.

"Well that's true," Liz said. "It just didn't seem like that much stuff until we had to pack it all up to bring here." She looked at him as he squatted down, eyes resting for a moment on his lips before she realized what she was doing. "Oh- sorry," she straightened up and took an extra step backwards when she overbalanced. "We don't have to open it if you don't want to."

Things like this have been happening more and more lately. Beginning to feel possessive of Lisette instead of merely protective. Protective he could have dealt with as it went with the position of being an escort. And true to form, since the alley he had been protective but the possessiveness was new. He shouldn't like it. Dante knew that. Lisette had grown on him, but has she grown so much that he felt sexually attracted to her? That he was possibly feeling like claiming her as his own? The very questions put him into a mood. It made him grumpy because he felt that there was some line and he was coming too close to crossing. He needed to stop moving towards it but he had no idea how to stop his actions. In turn, this left him upset and out of sorts when Lisette was both within and out of his sight.

Today had been one of his calmer days. Or it had been until he had gotten an unintentional view of Lisette's derričre. Now his hands itched to touch her in a mixture of lifting her off the box and simply holding her in his arms. Which he could not do because that's not what their relationship was about. It had taken them months to get to where they are. He was not about to ruin it because his emotions were acting all weird. Dante was sure it was because of the move. He would have continued to believe it was because of the move right until Lisette looked at his lips. Which could have meant nothing. Nothing at all. They could be in her line of sight, but Dante did not believe that. Even when she said sorry. A part of him hardened at what he had seen in her eyes as she had stared at his lips. Now, he was rather glad he was bending.

When she overbalanced, Dante rolled his eyes and coming down to his knees, he reached over the box to help her up. He had every intention of simply helping her back up and letting go but instead, he pulled her towards him. Pulling her until his lips could brush against hers with the box between them like a table. Which he didn't expect to like enough to do so again a second time as his free hand went behind her neck to hold her there. Then he realized what the hell he was doing and let her go. She hadn't given him permission to be so forward. "It's fine. I honestly can't I remember what's in this box since I haven't put my room together." He told her, his voice a little deeper than usual.

Liz accepted Dante's help without much thought; she was a bit clumsy, so she was used to it. It was always just a hand up and nothing more, even if, more recently, she wished that it was. The only time he had ever picked her up was after his former associate had grabbed her. It meant the fact that he didn't immediately let her go now was different and a bit surprising.

It wasn't until their faces were quite close together that Liz realized what Dante was doing, mostly because she just never thought he would want to kiss her. He'd always been so careful only to touch her hand, that she assumed he simply wasn't interested in her.

Her eyes closed and Liz brought her hands up to rest on Dante's chest as she returned the kiss. She was even more surprised when he kissed her a second time and she felt her cheeks heat up a bit. Then he let her go, replacing the butterflies in her stomach with confusion.

She leaned forward a bit, and then caught herself, using her hands on his chest to push back, and then belatedly removed them from his chest after realizing she was still touching him. He usually didn't like to be touched. Well, until recently, and now everything seemed different and confusing, and Liz wasn't exactly sure how she was supposed to be handling this.

"Uh-" she looked down at the box and tried to get her brain working when all she wanted to do was kiss him again. Her blush darkened a bit. "Right, okay, we can if you want." She wasn't entirely sure she was talking about the box.

He overstepped himself. He crossed the line. Damnit if he didn't want to kiss her for a third time...and a fourth...until he was satisfied. The last part of that thought sounded like the best idea.  And he couldn't remember what was in the crate. Only that Lizette had gotten on, fallen off, and then he had kissed her. Nor could he remember what he just said. Why was it so hot in here? Did she want to continue where they had stopped? It took almost too long for her to remove her hands. He had no idea what she was talking about. Since he couldn't even remember what he even said this seemed to make sense.

But Dante could tell she was embarrassed by the way she looked away from him. Could tell she was uncomfortable. He was a fool. Maybe if he went back into the kitchen, he could cool off. He felt so hot. "Lizette. What?" He mildly questioned, keeping his tone light while his hands rested on the floor. His dark brown eyes stayed on her, almost unblinking. Taking in every little movement she made. Dante found he didn't want to take his eyes off her. He shook him as if waking up. "No, never mind, I'll go finish the kitchen so I can start dinner." It was his turn to cook. If he remembered correctly the kitchen was cool. He really needed to cool off. The living room was too hot.

"Leave the unmarked crates here for now." He added, glad he didn't sound as distracted as he felt. Rising, he gave Lizette one last unreadable looks before trying not to hurry back to the kitchen. Once there, Dante exhaled. Then inhaled. And exhaled. Somewhere in there, his eyes had closed. When they snapped back opened, he knew breathing wasn't going to work. He was far too hot. Far too...Dante's vision narrowed and sharpened. He was hungry, but what was he hungry for?

Lisette wasn't really taking in what Dante was saying anymore. It was his body language that she was paying more attention to. He seemed... unsettled maybe. She wasn't used to seeing him like this, and when he looked at her, a somewhat uncomfortable chill went down her spine. She felt frozen in place, like prey caught in the gaze of a predator. This in itself was not uncommon with Dante. He was a Warlord Prince, a predator, perfectly deadly. He just rarely made her feel like she was in danger. Maybe it was because he was acting strange. Usually he had very good control.

Liz stared at the crate in front of her after Dante disappeared back into the kitchen. She waited a few moments, trying to decide why this situation seemed a bit familiar to her. After a few moments, she went and stood in the doorway of the kitchen.

"Dante? Are you-" Then it hit her. The hungry look was similar to one she had seen on her father's face when she was a child while he looked at her mother. Liz only saw it briefly before she was whisked away, along with her siblings. When she cried then because she thought something was wrong, rut was explained to her. Was this rut, too? She swallowed hard.

"Do you need me to leave?" She could go stay at the seat for a few days if he needed her to. Or maybe she was completely wrong. Maybe he was just startled because he had kissed her. Liz was still startled, too, even though she had liked it quite a lot.

Was it food he wanted? Had he unpacked enough to cook? No to the second question. He had plans for a simple meal tonight given how it was much more important to get everything where they wanted it. That just left the first question unanswered. But Dante didn't know the answer. It wasn't simply a yes or no. He braced his hands on the sink, leaning in as his gaze took in nothing outside of the side window. Lisette was tied up in the answer. Kissing her made her part of the problem. Kissing her had made him hungry...for her. His nostrils flared letting him know that he was no longer alone seconds before she called his name.

Dante did not even realize how slowly he straightened from how he had been standing or how he eased his grip on the counter he had been leaning against. Nothing about him moved yet all his attention was on her. She had stopped talking. Had she noticed something? Did she know what was wrong? Was there even anything wrong? Dante forgot all about feeling hot, his growing hunger, as he waited...almost patiently. As soon as she spoke, some nonsense about leaving, he moved. Adjusting where she had been standing so as to trap her against the wall next to the open archway.

"Leave? Why would you leave?" He asked in a tone that was far from normal, both of his hands on both sides of her head, his body leaning in slowly to press against hers. She looked nervous. It made him feel..edgy. Closing the last bit of distance between them, he reached down until his nose touched the connecting curve of her neck and shoulder. Lightly, rubbing it against her skin. Even that little bit of contact drove him.  He knew exactly what this was now. "If you want to go, then you can go. If you want to stay you will not be allowed to change your mind later." The arm that was closest to the archway dropped down. Staying completely still, he simply breathed in her scent. "Make your decision Lisette."
